UD Almería is one of the youngest professional football clubs in Spain. Originally called Almería Soccer Club, it was founded on the 26th of July 1989 and adopted its current name in 2001. The team, known as the ‘rojiblancos’ (the red and whites) were promoted to the First Division in 2007 and remained in the top category for four consecutive seasons, returning between 2013 and 2015. The club also reached the 2010 -2011 Copa del Rey semi-finals but lost its place in the final to Fútbol Club Barcelona.
Today, as one of the Second Division’s top teams, UD Almería is jostling for promotion again. Meanwhile, the youth team plays in the Andalusian group of the top-flight División de Honor Spanish youth league, and the squad is well-represented in the provincial and regional teams.
